Boston's Theatre Group's Broadway touring series at the Boston Opera House will bring in mostly recent hit Broadway musicals that haven't played Boston before, including the irreverent blockbuster and winner of nine Tony Awards, "The Book of Mormon Boston Tickets."
Original Broadway cast members Rema Webb, left, Andrew Rannell and Josh Gad are shown in "The Book of Mormon Tickets Boston." The blockbuster musical is embarking on its first national tour.
"The Book of Mormon Boston," a current Broadway blockbuster, will come to the Boston Opera House on the musical's first national tour. It will be part of Boston Theatre Group's 2012-13 Broadway at the Boston Opera House series.
The recipient of nine 2011 Tony Awards, with one for best new musical, "The Book of Mormon" irreverently lampoons naive but good-hearted young Mormon missionaries sent to a war-torn, AIDS-afflicted African country.
Devised by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of TV's "South Park," along with "Avenue Q" co-creator Robert Lopez, the show is selling out on Broadway and the original cast album won a Grammy this year. It has also gained attention for its genial but pointed spoof of Mormonism, at a time when Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, a Mormon, is much in the news.
According to STG executive director Josh Labelle, "The tour is starting in Denver and on the day tickets went on sale there the demand was so high, the ticketing system shut down however Boston Tickets has a large selection with prices as low as $39."
